In the Studio with Mufutau Yusuf

15 December 2024

A cornerstone of our mission at Luail is the research and development of new dance works by practicing artists working across the island of Ireland. In December, one of our inaugural R&D dancers Mufutau Yusuf (Junior) spent some time in the studio with the company, to begin the creative process for his new work that will be part of the triple bill Chora.

This time in the studio not only laid the groundwork for the piece, but fostered connections between Junior and the company dancers as they prepare for Luail’s debut performance, premiering as part of the 21st edition of Dublin Dance Festival.

Mufutau Yusuf is currently based between Ireland and Brussels, where he works with Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez. Since 2020 Mufutau has performed with Liz Roche Company in Ireland and the US. Mufutau made his full-length NYC choreographic debut with Òwe at the Irish Arts Centre, New York in 2022. As Associate Dance Artist at Liz Roche Company 2022 – 24, Mufutau presented his brand-new commission ‘Impasse’ as a work-in-progress piece at Dublin Dance Festival 2023.
