What is Luail?

Luail is Ireland’s inaugural national and all island dance company, established in 2024 with funding from Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.

Luail exists to embody, embed and empower dance across the island of Ireland, and to lead into a future that transforms how we make, know and experience it.

luail, (pron. loo-il) (Act of) moving; motion, activity. ~ na ngéag, movement of the limbs. ~í coirp, body movements.

Our Programme Pillars

Pillar One

Embody

Alongside the establishment of a new collective model of resident artists, core-company of dancers and multidisciplinary collaborators, we will commission original cutting-edge work and renew existing repertoire from dance artists based on the island of Ireland and internationally. These productions will span all scales, genres, languages and spaces, ranging from awe-inspiring spectacles to experimental and thought-provoking ideas.

Pillar Two

Embed

We believe in making dance accessible to all, regardless of geographical location or background. We will collaborate with venues, develop networks, engage with diverse communities through meaningful learning and engagement programmes, and build audience awareness and appreciation for dance across the island.

Pillar Three

Empower

We are committed to investing in and strengthening the cultural landscape across the island of Ireland. We will provide support systems for dance artists, catering to aspiring, emerging, and established professionals. Our initiatives aim to nurture talent and foster growth, ensuring a vibrant, resilient and sustainable future for dance.
